I was doing payroll for one of the restaurants when all of a sudden a thought occurred: Are there any birds that birth live young?
What do birds giving live births and payroll have to do with each other? No idea. My mind wanders a lot. I don’t even remotely remember the stops that train of thought took to get there.
I looked it up when I had a moment, and the answer is no, by the way.
What I found more interesting while looking for anything that pointed to birds birthing live young was the skink. That’s not a typo, which I thought when I saw it as a related question from Google. It is not supposed to be skunk. Skinks are real and they are adorable.
Just

bubs.
What I found most interesting about these little cuties, is they’re neither restricted to live nor egg birthing. As a family that includes over 1,500 species of lizard, there are some that birth live young, and some that lay eggs. Area of living can also lead to different means of reproduction within a species. This is known as bimodal reproduction, wherein some members give birth to live young, and others lay eggs. Bi-modal. Two modes.
What I found even more worthy of note and led me here was this tidbit from the same article:
Well, how about that? Witnessing evolution in the making. That’s just bonkers.
