Death and Dying

A Poem

I spend a fair amount of time
considering death and dying
and what it all means
in the grand spectrum
of this omnipotent universe

I wonder if there is death
or if our game just ends
and we get reprogrammed
into a new version of ourselves
with a little more pep

I wonder if the concept of dying
is a short-form abstract interpretation
of a static cycle that starts and ends
when the universe is so much bigger
than this concept of A to Z

It’s not that I am overly obsessed
with the concepts of death and dying,
I certainly think of other things more,
like family, love, and banana bread,
but how can I not think about it?

We are told that we go from here to there
and everything in the middle is life,
but sometimes I wonder if that’s too linear
and we are really just a diorama of scribbles
going off the end of the page, but not dead

I spend a fair amount of time
considering death and dying
but only in the constraint of a concept
as if I would research a bluebird
and wonder how it transcends all of this
