Indelible marks sent to remind us that mistakes are just information; gifts meant to heal. It’s what we learn from them that count. Yet getting over a big mistake and learning what not to do again…
You can drive across the coast of California or just around your city. You can travel with friends, family or even alone. You can be out for a month or just for the day… It doesn’t matter, Road trips are one of the best ways to travel and to know so many places at once.
This week, my in-laws are coming to visit us in Germany and we are traveling to the Czech Republic and Austria on a promising road trip.
Therefore, I had the brilliant idea to share with you some of the best road trips I had so far.
This is the first road trip I have pictures of. My father wanted to visit a friend that was living in Concórdia — a city 500 km west of my hometown, Florianópolis.
He invited my aunt and we went in two cars. We didn’t go directly, though. A nice round trip was planned to visit some other places like Sao Francisco do Sul and Curitiba.
I remember this trip being so much fun, with lots of food, music, and laughs!
Itinerary: Florianópolis — Sao Francisco do Sul — Curitiba — Concórdia — Lages — Florianópolis.
Total distance: 1250 km
In 2012 I was doing an internship in The Netherlands. My girlfriend at that time (and wife nowadays) came to visit me during the summer break. We made a huge journey around Europe and a part of it was a Road Trip to Italy.
We rented the car in Bologna and visited the Lamborghini and Ferrari museums, together with the cities of Luca, Pisa, and Florence. We took only small roads which were curvy, followed by rivers and bridges along the way. A definitive nature masterpiece.
Itinerary: Bologna — Sant’Agata Bolognese — Modena — Luca — Pisa — Florence — Bologna.
Total distance: 480 km
I went on a road trip with my housemates for the Christmas Holidays of 2012. We started in Eindhoven (NL) and crossed Luxembourg, France, Italy, Switzerland, and Germany.
I had the opportunity to drive through Col di Turini, a nice mountain road where the Montecarlo Rally is often held. The view was astonishing. We also drove within the limits of the F1 Monaco road circuit, which was a nice experience for an F1 fan like myself.
Itinerary: Eindhoven(NL) — Luxemburgo (LUX) — Dijon (FR) — Lyon(FR) — Avignon(FR) — Nice(FR) — Genova(IT) — Milao(IT) — Zurique(CH) — Lindau(DE) — Eindhoven(NL).
Total distance: 2600 km
This was quite a unique trip. My wife and I wanted to travel with our parents and decided that Uruguay should be the destination.
We went in two cars to the southernmost part of Brazil to cross the border with Uruguay. There we visited several wonderful places:
Colonia del Sacramento: a village from the 17th century that kept the charm throughout the years.
Punta del Este: beach destination full of casinos, restaurants, and nightlife.
This trip was definitely a good choice. We could spend time together, play games, visit different places, and of course: always followed by good wine and food!
Itinerary: Florianópolis(BR) —Porto Alegre(BR) — Rivera(URU) — Colonia del Sacramento(URU) — Montevideo(URU) — Punta del Este(URU) Pelotas(BR) — Florianópolis(BR).
Total distance: 3000km
As you can see, I traveled with family and friends, close to home and abroad. with nice and not so nice vehicles. The important is to enjoy these moments of life.
And what about you? Do you have good memories of your Road Trips?
