As Fragile As Glass

I feel like glass. I find broken pieces everywhere and I feel as if this was once a part of me…I collected a few to incorporate into an art piece but haven’t yet decided how to work it in. In the…

Interview Materials

One of the most important things you can do for yourself when it comes to job applications, is being prepared. If you are prepared, you are confident and that confidence will shine through in any interview. In addition to being prepared, showing up to an interview while feeling your best is also important. If you take care of how you look and act, people will respect that and take you more seriously. That is especially important when it comes to finding an internship or an entry level job right out of college. Ultimately it is up to you to set the tone for your success when it comes to nailing the interview process. By remembering the basics, and also making a lasting impacting you will set yourself apart from others and show your worth in the job market.

Action: While finishing these sandwiches we noticed that something did not look right. We realized we had forgotten the bacon on all the sandwiches and that we would have to un-box each sandwich in order to correct our mistake.

Result: Thankfully, we were able to recognize or mistake before our product was sent to the shop. The task completion took much longer than it should have due to our mistake but we have not made a mistake like that since then. Although it cost us time in that situation, we became a much more cautious team, which has improved our overall production capabilities.

Situation/Task: While in charge of twenty children over the summer my co-worker and I were in charge of planning a summer schedule including many games and activities each day. We often chose games that were in our enclosed field. It was not uncommon that some kids would not get along while playing games.

Action: During one of our games, a child had been disrespectful to one of their peers. In the moment there was nothing that could have been done, as the situation happened so quickly.

Result: After the incident we had made sure to talk to each of the individuals involved. The child that had been disrespectful then had to sit out of further games because of their unacceptable behavior. During pick up that evening the parents and guardians were given notice of the situation so they could discuss it at home. Not all parent interactions go over well, but it is important to keep parents in the loop so they can help their children to continue to grow outside of just our program.

Situation/Task: While studying abroad, my final project was to complete a company analysis and then create a twenty minute presentation and a twenty page analysis paper on my company of choice. This all had to transpire under a very short period of time.

Action: After attending my company visit, I only had four days before each of my assignments was due. My peers in the class had somewhere between two weeks to a week to complete the project, but I had significantly less time. This was due to the location of my visit, as well as the availability of my company to see me. Because of this, I knew that I had to work longer and harder those last few days to push through to completion of my final project.

Result: While the ending of my study abroad program came pretty quickly, I had to maintain positivity and stress-relieving techniques. Facing such an intense time crunch made me appreciate the decisions I made for those few days. I knew that if I was to finish my project on time I would not be able to go explore and have as much free time as my peers. Because of this understanding I was able to complete my project feeling satisfied with the hard work and effort I put into it while still enjoying my time abroad.
