First Step towards change

We visited the slums near UMT, it was heartbreaking and nice experience at the same time. Nice in a sense that these people were so loving and hospitable that it never felt for a moment that we are with the different people and stranger. When we went there for 1st time they cordially welcomed us and talked to us all the time they had smile on their faces when talking; it was so sweet and heart melting that despite of the difficulties and hardships they are facing, they are smiling like a conqueror of the World.

It was heartbreaking to see these talented people suffering because of lack of resources. Their kids can not go to school despite of their willingness just because they don’t have enough money to pay for. Mother of one child said who wants to live here, who wants their children not go to schools?,when we asked her. My heart skipped a beat at the moment.

When we asked how long they are living here? She said for her whole life; when we asked do you want this same life for your kids; abruptly she said NO, and then with sadness she lowered her voice and said but what can we do, I know we will be living our whole life, we will not have the money that we needed to move on from here, my kids will not go to school, this is how life is punishing us. It is so unfair to them.

We asked them if we enroll your children to the schools, would you let them? A very strange things she said; we had sent our kids to the school but the teachers there didn’t teach, they didn’t teach ethics and morale to our kids so we had to lift them up from the schools. It was strange that they have the wisdom that they not only want education but training to live as a proper citizen of Pakistan.

This time we gave them clothes that we have collected from our circle and own self. They were very happy, it was so proud and happy moment for us that we have done something beneficial for them.

They were very happy when we told them our purpose of visit, they gave us free hand and said do come whenever you want to we don’t have any issue. What else can make us more happy than someone is caring about the education of our children and worried about their future.

We didn’t face hardships as much if we say, the only issue we faced, was that most of their kids has been working outside in the industries so we couldn’t meet them.

We are looking for schools near them where we can enroll them and they can keep on studying there even after we don’t go there. They are keen learner and we know if we managed to do so they will continue learning. We will support them and pay their fees in future also.

Because we know there is no future without education for all.
