David Axelrod Speaks at Fordham University

Transcript:

On Monday, a former advisor to president Barack Obama spoke to a packed auditorium at Fordham University. David Axelrod detailed his own political journey from being a reporter at the Chicago Tribune to helping an underdog state senator from Illinois become a member of the U.S. Senate and then the first African American president. He spoke about his hope for the future and said:

“Politics is the way we grab the wheel of history in a democracy and turn it whatever way we think is best”

Mr. Axelrod said the Affordable Care Act was a cause close to his own heart and expressed his gratitude to president Obama making it happen.

The event was organized by the College Democrats Club. Mike Fissinger, A member of the executive Board said how grateful everyone in the club was to have such an important speaker.

“The hope that he felt and the satisfaction that he felt from working in politics for his whole life, especially during the Obama presidency, I think it left a lot of us young people very hopeful about getting into politics ”

The talk concluded with a Q&A in which Mr. Axelrod reminded students that they have to take political action for the causes close to their own hearts.
