How to actually abandon plastic water bottles?

Many people really want to phase out plastic mineral water bottles in their lives because it’s obviously bad for the environment (all that plastic that gets thrown in to the sea and landfill sites ) but many (including myself) are struggling to figure out how to actually go about it whether or not one lives in a developed country or a developing country because it’s not simple in both situations.

So if someone lives in a developed country, the water is safe to drink from the tap so the person can get a non-plastic bottle and fill it with tap water but the tap water tastes so terrible and is filled with calcium deposits; it’s what’s known as “hard water” so that’s why many people still prefer mineral water. I guess the solution in that case would be to purchase a simple water filter and fill the non-plastic water bottle before leaving the house.

In most developing countries, tap water or rather borhole water ( for those that are lucky enough to have the means to drill a borehole if they don’t get municipal water ) is not safe for drinking and so the small percentage of the population that can afford plastic mineral water bottles generally prefer to buy them. I guess the solution is to fill out a non-plastic water bottle from a water dispenser before leaving the house. It is still easier in developed country because in case someone doesn’t have the time or energy or money to get a water filter/water dispenser, the person can try and adapt to the tap water.

I don’t actually know the solution, I’m just voicing my thoughts. I see so many campaigns on social media encouraging people to abandon plastic water bottles but then they don’t explain how to actually physically go about it depending on where you live in the world. Maybe it’s obvious and I’m just slow but I think if there were concrete step by step instructions on how to abandon them on these campaigns, more people would invest the energy to do so.
